Autumn At The Arboretum

Fall has arrived at the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden, and this year's Pumpkin Village is more colorful than ever. From September 19 through November 1, 2026, the Arboretum transforms its 66 acres along White Rock Lake into "Harvest Hues," a display that reimagines the work of modern and contemporary artists through more than 100,000 pumpkins, gourds, and squash. Named one of the "Best Pumpkin Festivals in America" by Fodor's Travel, this Dallas fall tradition is not to be missed.

Department of Sanitation

Some properties are moving trash pick up from the Alley to the Curb starting in February 2027. See if your home is moving curbside at the City of Dallas Sanitation Website. https://dallascityhall.com/departments/sanitation/Pages/default.aspx

Pet of the Month

Meet Charlie, a 9-year-old Dachshund/Beagle mix.

Charlie isn’t much of a toy guy. He prefers the finer things in life: cozy beds, blankets, the couch, sunny backyard naps, and chasing squirrels around his favorite pecan tree. He’s also an enthusiastic pecan collector!

When he’s not lounging or squirrel-watching, Charlie loves walks down Glencoe and spending time with his sisters, Winnie and Bluebell, both Corgis, and the newest member of the family, 6-month-old Scarlett.

Charlie has called Vickery Place home since 2021, and at nine years old, he’s got life figured out: sunshine, squirrels, butter as his favorite treat and a really good nap.

Charlie will receive a $50 Hollywood Feed gift card for being September’s Pet of the Month.

October Yard of the Month

The Hoovers of Willis Street

Congratulations to Dean and Dana Hoover of Willis Street, this month’s Yard of the Month winners!

The Hoovers joined our neighborhood in July of last year, sight unseen. Their realtor sent a video tour of the Craftsman-style home, and they fell in love, especially with the luxurious backyard featuring a pool, a sauna, a TV viewing area, an outdoor kitchen, and a dog run for their dog, Sunny.

After moving in, they found the right landscape artist to bring both yards to life with plants made for Texas. Out front, a slab-stone walkway edged in dark gravel leads through a lush green lawn to beds overflowing with orange lantana. Cone-shaped boxwoods stand guard atop the stone porch pillars, while rust-colored bowl planters spill over with white blooms. Coral-flowered red yucca adds height on one side, and dense evergreen shrubs soften the stone chimney on the other. A blooming crape myrtle frames the house, and potted mums and pumpkins give the porch a festive fall welcome. Out back, holly, junipers, and hibiscus round out the design.

For Dana, the move was a homecoming. She grew up here, but the couple spent 30 years in Ohio raising their three children. When their daughter landed a residency at UT Southwestern, the chance to come home was too good to pass up. Their son has also moved to Dallas, and their parents in Conroe are an easy drive down I-45.

The Hoovers love walking to shopping and favorite local restaurants, and they adore the neighborhood’s charm. Next time you’re on Willis Street, give Dean, Dana, Sunny, and Cher a warm welcome!

A special thank you to North Haven Gardens for the $50 gift card our winners will receive.
