MAY VPNA NEIGHBORHOOD NEWSLETTER
May is one of our favorite times of year in the neighborhood!
May is one of our favorite times of year in the neighborhood—everything feels a little more alive. The weather is beautiful, patios are filling up, and there’s a great energy as we head into summer.
With Mother’s Day around the corner, it’s the perfect excuse to slow down and celebrate the amazing moms, grandmothers, and mother figures who make our homes so special. And as Memorial Day weekend approaches, it’s a meaningful time to reflect, gather with friends and family, and kick off the summer season.
A big congratulations to all of the graduating seniors this month! 🎓 Such an exciting milestone and the start of a new chapter—we’re all cheering you on.

VPNA YARD OF THE MONTH - 5405 Miller Ave
🌿

Vickery Place is blooming beautifully this spring, and our May Yard of the Month winner at 5405 Miller is a perfect example of how thoughtful design can turn even the shadiest yard into a vibrant, welcoming retreat.
Courtney Crowell, a Louisiana native, has called this house home since 2014. She chose Vickery Place to be closer to friends—and quickly fell in love with the neighborhood, calling it “the perfect location in Dallas.”
Her front yard reflects that same warmth and connection: inviting, cheerful, and full of personality with a little help from her two Maltese companions, Abbie and Daisy.
One of the standout features of this yard is how beautifully it embraces its natural shade. Rather than fighting the conditions, Courtney leaned into them. Where grass struggled, she reimagined the space with layered planting beds and incorporated gravel and ground cover for texture and ease.
Courtney’s love for bright, fun colors that pop under shade shines through in every corner with lovely annuals like petunias, dusty miller and bougainvillea.
Courtney is quick to credit her gardener, Bobby Hartman of Flawless Turf for helping bring her vision to life.
Congratulations to Courtney Crowell on a well-deserved win and a big thank you to North Haven Gardens for their sponsorship and the $50 gift card they award our winners each month.

PET OF THE MONTH

May’s Pet of the Month is Jasmine, otherwise known as Jazzy Jazz, or The Snazz. She’s a 5-year-old calico mix who loves Temptations treats and exploring the many fence lines and alleyways of Vickery Place. She sees all of Vickery Place as her neighborhood and may occasionally let herself into your yard. Be sure to say hi if you see her.
Thank you to our sponsor, Hollywood Feed, for providing a gift card to keep Jasmine well-stocked with her favorite snacks.

Out and About in Dallas
Dallas in May is a vibrant time to visit, as the city embraces the peak of spring with warm temperatures typically ranging from the mid-60s to low 80s. Outdoor life flourishes at Klyde Warren Park and the Dallas Arboretum, though it's also the start of the lively festival season featuring events like the Wildflower! Music Festival and Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month celebrations.
You can find a full calendar of local events and seasonal activities through Visit Dallas.
VPNA Wine Walk: A Huge Success
The VPNA Wine Walk took place on Saturday April 25th and offered an exclusive evening of "sip and stroll" through our beautiful neighborhood. Neighbors gathered to visit three hand-selected backyards to enjoy unlimited premium wine pours and signature bites from local favorites from Walkers Bar and Market, Goodwins and Mayer's Garden.
This is VPNA's association's primary fundraiser to help support community outreach, preservation and neighborhood projects. We could not have done it without the help of all of our volunteers. A VERY special thank you to our host homes: The Walker's 5303 Richard, The Matthews' 5435 Vickery, and The Burford's 5625 Miller.
