May Pet of the Month - Fletcher

This month's VPNA Pet of the Month is Fletcher! Fletcher will be receiving a generous gift basket custom curated just for them from our neighbor Dr. Benjamin Wright & his team at Lakewood Vet Center.

Fletcher, a delightful pup with boundless energy and a heartwarming story, was welcomed into the loving arms of the Hope Family after a serendipitous encounter with Hillsboro County Paw Pals.

After a big move to Dallas and settling into their new home on the vibrant 5300 block of Miller Avenue, the Hope Family knew their household was incomplete without a furry companion. Enter Fletcher, the four-legged dynamo whose zest for life stole their hearts from the moment they met.

Fletcher is not your average dog; he's a social butterfly with a wagging tail and a penchant for making friends wherever he goes. His signature move? A joyful jump to say hello to everyone he meets, spreading smiles and tail wags in his wake.

But Fletcher's charm doesn't stop there. He's a connoisseur of daily neighborhood walks, eagerly exploring every nook and cranny of his new stomping grounds with an insatiable curiosity. And what's a stroll without a snack? Fletcher's favorite afternoon indulgence is none other than crisp, refreshing apple slices, the perfect treat to refuel his adventurous spirit.

In Fletcher, the Hope Family has found not just a pet, but a cherished member of their household—a fur baby who is a bundle of joy who brings laughter, love, and endless tail wags into their lives. So here's to Fletcher, our Pet of the Month, whose exuberance reminds us all to embrace life with open arms and a wagging tail.

Be sure to welcome the Hope family to the neighborhood and wish them & Fletcher “congratulations” for being VPNA’s Pet of the Month for May 2024!

Yard of the Month - 5419 Vickery Ave

Congratulations to Melanie and Marty Buckholt of 5419 Vickery, our May Yard of the Month winners! If you’ve seen a giant inflatable Easter Bunny or Uncle Sam or Santa, you know this house! It should come as no surprise that Marty runs a successful promotions company called Air Ad Promotions; you’ve probably also seen some of Melanie’s birthday handiwork in the neighborhood as she co-runs Yard Card Wishes while also working at Skillman Child Development Center.

The Buckholts have been in the area for over two decades, first living on Vanderbilt behind Stans and as their family grew, they moved into 5419 in 2004 where they raised their three children, Liberty, Justice and Hope. They absolutely love this neighborhood and never plan on moving again!

They wanted to update their front yard and over the past two years started by building raised beds and buying beautiful blue pots. (“We just really like the color blue!”) Next, for flowers, they worked with Marty’s sister, Michele Craven, a Master Gardener. To get inspiration, they walked the neighborhood and Marty pointed out different things that he liked, specifically bright, vibrant colors and Michele brought it to life with beautiful geraniums, petunias, foxtail ferns, sweet potato vine and more.

Melanie and Marty will receive a $50 gift card from our sponsor, North Haven Gardens –
Congratulations!

RPO Placard Update

If you live in the 56XX block of Vickery Blvd (south side), or the 56XX block of Goodwin Ave (north side), and are having trouble renewing or accessing a hang tag for Resident Parking Only (RPO), OR if you are interested in getting RPO for your block, here is some information from Dallas Parking Enforcement:

"The city selected a new contractor for parking management. This includes the management of the Resident Parking Only (RPO) program. The vendor is providing an on-line portal to allow residents to apply for their permits. The vendor will also be providing hang tags which are going to be different from the ones the current residents have. A letter is being written to inform the residents of the changes. This will also include a Frequently Asked Questions page. In the interim period, it is difficult to enforce the RPO areas because new residents were unable to register for the program".

Here is the web page for Parking https://dallascityhall.com/.../Pages/parking-management.aspx . The number listed is correct. The application for the creation of an RPO is on the webpage. The individual application/renewals will be handled on line once the system is initiated. Parking Permits and Licenses (dallascityhall.com)According to Scott Walton, Assistant Director over Parking enforcement, they plan on sending out letters in the next 2 weeks.

Kroger Community Rewards

During the Q4 period of 2023 we only had 23 households signed up for our Kroger Community Rewards. With nearly 1200 homes in Vickery Place, we can fund events like this month's donations to local Pantries with no effort every time you get groceries! If you shop at Kroger, please take the time to sign up below and a portion of your purchases go to supporting local schools, charity drives, and neighborhood events.

When you do your grocery shopping at Kroger, don’t forget there is an easy way to also support Vickery Place Neighborhood Association. VPNA is a registered charity with the Kroger Community Rewards Program. A few simple steps will help raise funds to support more neighborhood activities. https://www.kroger.com/account/communityrewards/

To Connect With Kroger Community Rewards:

• Sign into your Kroger Rewards digital account (or easily set one up if you do not already have an account).

• Select “My Account”.

• Scroll down to the ‘Community Rewards’ section of your account page.

• Select ‘Enroll Now’ or ‘Edit’.

• Enter the name of the organization you wish to support.

• Select ‘Vickery Place Neighborhood Association’ and click on ‘Save’.

Any transactions moving forward using the card number associated with your Kroger digital account will be applied to the Community Rewards program. It takes about 10 days for the Community Rewards totals to begin displaying on your receipt. Vickery Place NA gets quarterly rewards payments—last quarter we received $44.22. The more neighbors who shop with Kroger and connect their digital account with Vickery Place, the more funds our organization will earn! Thank You!
