September 2020: 5528 Willis Avenue

Congratulations to our September Yard of the Month - Melanie Gordon of 5528 Willis Avenue!

Melanie moved to Vickery Place a year ago and fell head over heels the first time she saw her 1926 Craftsman home--complete with shingles, dentil molding, and an oh-so-charming porch swing. She was originally drawn to the walkability and vibe of the neighborhood which became even more important when she adopted a yellow lab rescue dog named Tinker in March. Proximity to the liveliness of Greenville Ave. and to her family who lives close by sealed the deal.

Melanie’s eclectic garden features a low Japanese maple surrounded by hot weather favorites such as caladiums and pentas. Melanie’s favorite are the multiple hydrangeas scattered across the front. Anchoring the west side of the house is a stately magnolia tree. Melanie claims not to have a green thumb, so she is enjoying learning as she goes along and riding on the proverbial coattails of what the previous homeowners had done with the yard.
