Congratulations to our July Yard of the Month - The O’Brien family of 5307 Richard Avenue!

Angela, Mike, and their two children are new additions to the Vickery Place neighborhood, having moved here only 6 short months ago. The family was looking for a home closer to their daughter’s school, and Angela wanted a manageably sized yard to flex her green thumb.

Angela enlisted a garden professional whom she worked with at previous residences to make her vision come to life. The colorful, yet low maintenance, front yard landscaping pops against the neutral backdrop of the white house, and curved garden beds soften the clean lines of the home. The theme of color and curves is also mirrored in the backyard. Low voltage lighting was added for illumination, and the side yard has seen the addition of a raised bed for herbs and vegetables. Angela is the herb gatherer, and Mike is the chef. A screened-in outdoor living space was the family’s favorite place to hang out this past spring.

Gardening Tip from Angela: If delicate plants, like hydrangeas, are getting hammered by the strong Texas sun, set up shade cloth to get them over the hump of our hottest months.
