7pm @ Vickery Towers (5619 Belmont Avenue)

Summer is here, time for outdoor fun and family recreation! One popular destination just a few miles from Vickery Place is White Rock Lake. There you will discover all kinds of things to see and do, such as sailing, rowing, fishing, bird watching, biking and walking trails, picnic areas, and of course the Dallas Arboretum and the Bath House Cultural Center. But, did you ever stop to wonder when and how this scenic sanctuary began? So much of the life and history of Dallas is echoed through the life and history of White Rock Lake.

Come take a journey through time! Discover how White Rock Lake moved from being a water source 10 miles outside of Dallas to an urban oasis enjoyed by over two million visitors a year. Join us for the July 11th general meeting and hear guest speaker Sally Rodriguez, author of the book "Images of America, White Rock Lake". Sally has over 30 years of experience with the Dallas Park and Recreation Department and has become the department's historian charged with promoting the Park & Recreation Department's historic legacy.

We will also have a brief update from the Dallas Police Department on crime activity in our area and ways to keep your home and family safe this summer. Pizza and refreshments will be provided.  See you there!
